Procedure of Bioactive Endodontics

Vital pulp cryotherapy is performed when a carious lesion is removed from a tooth and there is direct or indirect exposure of the dental pulp.

   Patient should be anesthetized first.
The cryotherapy portion of treatment involves placing sterile ice on the exposed tooth pulp.

It takes 10 to 15 minutes. It is done only in a vital tooth.

The application of ice lowers the temperature of the tooth s blood and nerve supply and this reduces inflammation and post treatment pain.
After performing cryotherapy it is important to do 17%EDTA irrigation a bio ceramic material is then
placed over the pulp. Then the tooth is restored with a permanent restoration.

Limitation

It cannot be performed on a a necrotic or partially necrotic pulps.
